Many people still think of esports as a niche pursuit for nerds but increasingly the games played as esports are embedded in the lives of millions. As a research topic it can provide valuable insights into the digital society. How can esports be a key component of European identity? How can it be leveraged to develop useful skills and produce upstanding cybercitizens? What are the challenges it faces for a sustainable future and what needs to happen to ensure that we don’t miss the chance to use it to enrich the modern world?
This talk will provide insights into what esports was, is and can become in the future.
