There exist plastic degrading enzymes in natural environments, however of low efficiency. With a specific engineered enzyme, the plastic PET could be degraded within three days.

The audience will have a chance to hear about how the biodegradation of plastics are contributing to sustainability. There will also be a video showing the whole process of how a piece of green PET plastic is degraded by the enzyme and real sample displayed of PET degraded by enzymes. Excitingly, the audience will also have the chance to do the biodegradation experiment and explore the biodegradation by themselves.
